Since it’s founding, VM Medical has become internationally recognized as a leader in the field of breast cancer prevention, detection, diagnosis and treatment. It is the largest non-hospital based breast center in Canada and the only Canadian board member of the National Consortium of Breast Centers.
Today VM Medical welcomes patients from around the world, offering them access to our accumulated women’s health expertise and the most comprehensive ambulatory (out-of-hospital) state of the art medical imaging, biopsy and pathology interpretation technology in Canada.
VM Medical operates using a multidisciplinary model that allows several health professionals to work together to optimize patient care. Our exceptional team includes physicians, general and plastic-reconstructive surgeons, radiologists, pathologists, psychologists and physiotherapists, along with medical, surgical and radiation oncologists, certified kinesiologists and certified genetic counsellors, all working alongside a dedicated support staff.
Our Breast Center team of physicians and support staff employ cutting edge technology to deliver comprehensive, specialized treatment with an emphasis on breast cancer prevention. Offering a range of services, all of which can be accessed in the same visit, VM Medical strives to offer patients the highest standard of care. These services include full field digital mammography with computer aided detection (CAD), 3D-4D breast ultrasound, a breast dedicated MRI unit, biopsy services including stereotactic, ultrasound-guided, or MRI-guided, cytology, integrated medicine and wellness services as well as therapeutic counselling.
In 2011 alone VM Medical diagnosed and treated over 450 new cases of breast cancer, more than most hospitals in Quebec. The Center continues to advocate for improvement in all aspects of patient care and is involved in several ongoing studies with major Canadian universities on the importance of introducing preventative services in the prevention of breast cancer.
VM Medical has a long history of innovation in preventative and diagnostic methods for breast cancer. The Center was the first in Canada to offer patients full field digital mammography with computer aided detection (CAD), the first to offer 3D-4D breast ultrasound, the first breast dedicated MRI unit and the only MRI unit in Canada to be accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR), the first to offer patients same day preliminary pathology, among other accomplishments.
